Earthdata EULA publication policy

MitchellCo Inc. uses this page as a conservative release gate for public, commercial HTML maps. It is an operational policy, not legal advice. EULAs and source terms can change and are re-checked before first use of a new restricted source.

Default rule: if a source is blocked, needs clearance, unknown, unreviewed, or requires an unaccepted EULA, MitchellCo does not publish that layer. Map generation fails closed rather than silently accepting terms.

Accepted / potentially usable with source-specific conditions

Copernicus Sentinel terms, OB.DAAC Sentinel-3, NASA GESDISC Data Archive, GLIMS Download Service, TOLNet, and a previously accepted MERIS agreement. Acceptance alone does not override product-specific attribution, redistribution, copyright, commercial-use, or release conditions.

Deliberately not accepted / requires clearance

ASF-family EULAs, Commercial SmallSat/CSDA EULAs, MAAP authentication terms, ESA Envisat project terms, SEDAC entries pending permissions review, and test/placeholder agreements. MitchellCo does not use those sources in public maps unless the relevant agreement is accepted and the commercial/public-release questions are separately resolved.

Specific conservative gates

ASF: reviewed terms include International Polar Year clauses restricting commercial use and redistribution. Until ASF confirms which datasets those clauses bind, ASF-sourced layers remain excluded from commercial public maps.

Commercial SmallSats: reviewed CSDA terms contain restrictions on public sharing and commercial/third-party use. Licensed material is excluded unless the applicable release authority explicitly permits the intended public map.

MAAP: reviewed terms prohibit commercial use of the MAAP platform. MitchellCo does not use MAAP as part of the commercial map workflow without written clearance.

ESA Envisat: the reviewed agreement is project/PI oriented. Envisat-derived public commercial layers require separate clearance.

Test, proxy, simulated, or placeholder products: not used as real quantitative public-map content.

Credential handling

Where an otherwise-cleared NASA dataset requires Earthdata authentication for download, credentials are used only during private build jobs. Tokens are never intentionally written into public HTML, JavaScript, JSON, URLs, repository files, or published artifacts.
